The consumption of current at the Central Mechanical Works has on an average been 30% higher than the estimated figure. This is due to increased output of work from the shops.

Additional trains not contemplated when the 1934 Estimates were approved will result in an increase of 96,000 train miles over the estimat- ed mileage for 1934. These additional trains are as under :-
(I) Through Mixed,
(II) Week-end through expresses. from 1st January to 30th April,
1934,
(III) Mid-day through fasts from 1st October, 1934.
It is estimated that as a result of this increase in mileage the vote for Locomotive Oil will be exceeded by $4,800 and a supplementary vote for this sum is requested.
The above is to be met from savings under sub-head 6, E-3-1-2-1 Coal for Locomotives (1934 Estimates page 75 sub-head 6).

The deficiency is due to an increase in the number of interpreters required for cases where Police Interpreters were not available (Japanese, Portuguese and other dialects).
